STEAKS & BEERS IN FULL OPERATION

From a hero---

All Hands:

Just because I am in a wheel chair, and sometimes able to get around in a walker, does not mean our Steaks & Beers operation is not in full swing.  Of course weather is a factor and it would be better to wait for spring.  We have a full crew willing to help with your unit and take up the slack my broken leg is causing.  We are good to go!

Marine units, Young Marines, Boy Scouts, firemen, police and any other groups are invited to lock on dates for the year, and join us for a historical Professional Military Education (PME) of the Battlefields of Gettysburg, great chow, camaraderie, a bon fire after chow, and most important, unit cohesion.  For Boy Scouts and Young Marines we do Steaks & Cokes.

STEAKS & BEERS
Marine Barracks Gettysburg

Every year we have over 4,000 active duty Marines and other groups come to Gettysburg for a Battlefield Professional Military Education (PME).

Marines:

cobrassmall.jpgThis is a basic outline of a Steaks & Beers that my wife Linda Bell and I do for the Marines and other groups that will be coming to Gettysburg for a PME training on our Battlefields. We offer this opportunity so that Marines who cannot afford the expense of motels, campgrounds and restaurants are still able to come and study the most significant Battlefield in our country. Viet Nam cost our country 51,000 in 10 years. Gettysburg cost us 51,000 in three days and historians argue about a total of 10 hours of actual combat during these three days.

tank_small.jpgFor openers, please understand that this is not a commercial enterprise. We do this because you are Marines, and we hope the Marines that have camped in our backyard will continue this for future generations to come.

We can handle units of up to 250 or so without too much trouble. If you are over that number, we can discuss this further. Also, we cannot feed Marines during the cold, winter months, so schedule your PME during the warmer months.  During the colder months, we can still do the beer part of a Steaks & Beers complete with a bon fire. Groups over 200 are still welcome to throw down with duce gear in the yard.

gun_ph.jpgIf your unit arrives in Gettysburg in the morning, there are fast food joints to accommodate morning chow. If you meet a guide at 0900, you will have about 7 hours, depending on time of year, to spend about 7 hours on the actual Battlefields. I can help with arranging guide services. Your troops will be back at our house by 1600 or 1700.  My wife and I live on Herr's Ridge at the Black Horse Tavern Road. This is where Confederate General James Longstreet turned around 17,000 troops on the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg. It is here they lost the Battle of Gettysburg and the American Civil War. Our house is also the site of General Pickett's burial grounds.

ph_linda.jpgph_seamus.jpgChow, which is all the steak, beans, bread and beer your Marines can consume. These are all the food groups Marines need. After chow, there is a bonfire in the yard for sitting around and telling bad jokes, swapping lies and trading Marine Corps lore. This is very important for unit cohesion, and a lot of salty Marines have told me that this was the best night they ever spent in the Marine Corps. This is what makes it worthwhile for the Linda and I to continue opening our home to Marines year after year. At this bonfire, Linda will play Taps for your Marines over our Battlefield.

The cost for this is $25 per head.  This charge covers any and all expenses for a Steaks & Beers and camping out.

I can assist you with all areas of your PME training in Gettysburg and I will be glad to do so.
